Community Weed Pull

Do you love the Gateway Trail System? Do you love hiking or biking the trails and listening to all of the birdsong, watching the butterflies float from flower to flower and seeing those beautiful big swaths of purple Sonoma Sage that blanket the side of the trail?

This year we want to focus on some noxious weeds that are threatening the biodiversity of the area above the main trailhead on Everitt Memorial Highway. Come out for a few hours and let’s put a dent in the Musk Thistle that is INVADING that area!

Thank you to our many generous sponsors for promoting and sharing this event. This year Raven Tree – Wild Bird & Nature Shop will be providing a coupon for a free bag of bird seed to all volunteers!

MCCLOUD APPLE HARVEST FESTIVAL

The 10th Annual Apple Harvest Festival will be held on October 12th from 10AM to 4PM on Main Street in historic downtown McCloud.

The festivities begin with an Apple Pie baking competition, where the winner has an opportunity to receive a custom ceramic pie plate from one of our vendors and a gift certificate to a McCloud business. Bring your homemade apple pies to the registration booth no later than 10:45AM to be entered for the panel of judges!

Enjoy live music by The Gnarly Pints from 11-1PM. Catch a preview of their music by clicking here: The Gnarly Pints Music

The Gnarly Pints are a dynamic fiddle rock duo from Northern California with a bold and eclectic pub style. Consisting of classically-trained fiddle player / songwriter Emily Nolen and hard-rocking multi-instrumentalist Jake Nolen, the couple have toured with Grammy-winning artists like Kevin Max and have opened for and played alongside internationally-acclaimed acts such as Men Of Worth, as well as several others.

Sophia Claire from 2-4PM. Catch a preview of her music by clicking here: Sophia Claire
Sofia Claire was musically influenced at a very early age by the music stylings of George Strait, Dolly Parton, Shania Twain, Kieth Whitley, Randy Travis, Loretta Lynn, Sammy Kershaw and Terri Clarke. Current and later influences include Cody Johnson, Ian Munsick, Tyler Childers, Kylie Frey, and of course Lainey Wilson. Sofia Claire first took the spotlight on her school theater stage, and as the cantor in her church choir.  Sofia Claire grew up on country music and dreamed of recording country songs like those artists who inspired her.

Along Main Street you can cruise the vendors, pick an orange friend to take home from the "Pumpkin Patch" up at the lawn of McCloud River B&B, and snap a photo at the cute vignette area. Taste pressed apple juice at the bonafide press in our "Watch & Learn" lawn, also in up at the McCloud River B&B.

Give your full bellies and tired feet a rest while on a nostalgic horse & wagon ride about town, basking in the autumn glory of this quaint haven's changing leaves, crisp air, dainty streets, and friendly townspeople. Children's passes will be available for purchase to include many of these offerings.

Top off the fun-filled day with purchase of a fresh baked apple pie! Pre-orders for apple pies can be made below. Proceeds go directly to supporting our Chamber and its continued functions. Please also consider throwing in a little tip at our Beer Booth, which supports local businesses and community needs.

Scottish Fish - High Energy Celtic from Boston

Scottish Fish

Described as “both very traditional and highly flexible” by Folkworld Magazine's Alex Monaghan, and as “one of the most energetic and creative acts to take root in the local Celtic music scene this century” by Boston Irish Reporter Sean Smith, Scottish Fish present a fresh take on traditional and contemporary Scottish and Cape Breton music. After growing up steeped in the Boston Celtic music scene, these five young women began touring at an early age, quickly enchanting domestic and international audiences with their youthful enthusiasm, creative arrangements, and sensitive performances. As described by a concertgoer, “this powerhouse quintet wows listeners with a luscious and exciting sound, at times five instruments sharing one voice, and others a dynamic orchestra of harmony. Their years of friendship cultivate a truly unique musical bond. Their love for each other and the music they create is a gift they offer to anyone willing to listen.”

“Both very traditional and highly flexible,” the Scottish Fish sound features “skillful fiddle melodies and harmonies, imaginative bass lines and rhythms, and spine-tingling treatments” of traditional tunes that render them into “modern masterpieces”
~ Alex Monaghan, Folkworld Magazine (2023)

“One of the most energetic and creative acts to take root in the local Celtic music scene this century… the Scottish Fish ensemble has made the transition from carrying the mantel of the ‘future of Celtic music’ to thoroughly occupying the present”
~ Sean Smith, the Boston Irish Reporter (2023)

[The Scottish Fish Sound is] “both incredibly musical and just a little unusual... individually they are all creative and talented, and together they spark each other, pushing each other even further to make amazing music”
~ Hanneke Cassel, Scottish fiddler, as quoted in the Boston Irish Reporter (2018)

Shasta Ascension Backcountry Race

The Friends of the Mount Shasta Avalanche Center and the Mount Shasta Ski Park present the 11th annual Shasta Ascension backcountry ski and splitboard race.

Just a heads-up, we've added a Heavy Metal category! Bust out the leather pants and hairspray, 'cause it's your time to shine.

The race follows a traditional ski-mo (ski mountaineering) format of a timed event that follows an established trail through challenging winter alpine terrain while passing through a series of checkpoints. Racers climb and descend under their own power using backcountry skiing equipment and techniques.

Randonee, telemark, and split boards are welcome. Racers should be comfortable climbing and descending advanced terrain. New last year and baqck again, we've added categories for the groms! Got a youngster at home that charges harder than you do, (no shame, they all do) get 'em signed up for the Shasta Ascension Junior Course!
